Choice of Gym Crucial to Fitness Success

Written by Lynn Glenn and Jeff Behar, MS, MBA
health-club-membershipA health club can be a great fitness motivator if you choose the right one. Many people hope that joining a health club will be a magic bullet to inspire them to workout. Before signing on the dotted line decide what's important to you. Be sure the club you choose suits your personal needs and fitness goals. To help ensure the success of your new lifestyle, you might want to do a little research before choosing the right health club.

Health clubs can vary greatly not only in price but also in size, amenities, programs offered, hours, convenience and most importantly, motivational atmosphere. Choosing a health club that is right for you is crucial to your success. Picking a quality health club to join is the key to sticking with your workout regimen, getting healthy and staying fit.

If your neighborhood has only one heath club or fitness center, that's the one you probably need to join, even if the facilities aren't top-notch. Sometimes the club without the exact facilities you want will be a better deal due to a convenient location where you are more likely to stop and workout. Also having conveniently located health club may increase the frequency in which you use it.

Health Club Amenities

Make sure the health club has the kind of equipment and facilitiesthe-chelsea-club-pool you most want. Do they have enough treadmills, exercise bikes, free weights, and exercise machines of the type you prefer? Do they have a space for you to stretch and use an exercise ball, foam roller, etc? Common items would include a pool, room for aerobics and dance classes, basketball court, racquetball or handball courts, sauna, steam room, whirlpool. Also you might want to know if the health club has a babysitting service. A great deal of budget health clubs have popped up over the years offering the basics and nothing more at a discount price. Although these so called health clubs can have a tempting price tag, they may not meet all your fitness needs. Paying a little bit more per month to improve your health is always a good investment. Some of the high...
